Rugby Cranes To Face Zimbabwe As Victoria Cup Returns

Uganda’s Rugby 15s national team, the Rugby Cranes, will face Zimbabwe in Victoria Cup.

The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) confirmed the developments on Monday, further revealing the dates.

Uganda will host Zimbabwe Sables on Saturday July 30 at Legends in Kampala.

The second leg will be played in Harare at a date yet to be confirmed.

The Victoria Cup is a rugby union tournament contested by the four African nations of Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The last meeting between Uganda and Zimbabwe was in 2019 – Rugby Cranes losing both matches 32-26 in Harare (August 2019) and 26-31 at Legends (July 2019).

The Zimbabwe match comes just days after the URU confirmed the withdrawal of Kenya from the supposed Elgon Cup that was slated for July 23.

The Rugby Cranes just recently returned from the Rugby Africa Cup in France that acted as qualifiers for the Rugby World Cup.

Despite missing out on the World Cup ticket, that went to Namibia, after losing to eventual finalists Kenya Simbas in the Quarterfinals, Uganda beat Ivory Coast to finish fifth and climb eight places to 44th in World Rankings.

Zinbabwe on the other hand, whose bid to qualify for the first Rugby World Cup in 31 years went up in flames, have slid to 32nd.
