Uganda’s Immaculate Chemutai will be hoping for a podium place at the Women’s Marathon in the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon (US).
Chemutai finished 16th at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, then posting two hours, 32 minutes and 23 seconds in a stunning performance that saw her endure the hot temperatures.
That, was the highest placement for a Ugandan female athlete at an Olympics Marathon ever.
Going to Oregon, she will also be aiming at breaking the National Record which stands at 2:23.13 set by Juliet Chekwel in Seville in 2020.
The 34-year old’s Personal Best is 2:28:30 she set in Abu Dhabi in November last year.
Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich will be hoping to defend her marathon title having won the 2019 Doha in 2:32:43.
Judith Jeptum and Angela Tanui are the other members on the Kenyan team.
Ethiopia who dominated the Men’s Marathon will have 2021 Berlin Marathon winner Gotytom Gebreslase, Ababel Yeshaneh (2019 Chicago Marathon) and Ashete Bekere (third in 2021 London Marathon).
