Tropical Royals beat Power 87-82 in a stunning result in the Tusker-Lite sponsored National Basketball League on Sunday at Lugogo.
The newcomers led for the best part of the game and were good value for the result which is a manifest of how perfectly they executed their game plan.
Isaac Afidra had brought Power level in the closing stages but Joshua Duallo laid up before Norman Musinguzi scored a three-point jumper to put the game to bed.
Allan Nandala led the way for Tropical Royals with 22 points, Osman and Musinguzi added 18 and 11 points respectively while Charles Ochera completed a double double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Innocent Ochera scored a game high 22 points from a 7-for-7 shooting while Samad Imran and Afidra contributed 13 points each, but in vain, for Power.
The game was evenly contested and it was tied 19-all after the first quarter before Tropical Royals took a two-point lead at halftime and held on to their advantage from thereafter.
It’s the seventh win for Tropical Royals (7-12) who improve their chances of surviving in the league next season on first time of asking.
And with Falcons already relegated, Victoria University (5-15) and Ndejje University (6-12) are two teams most likely to go down as well if they do not improve their tallies in the remaining games.
