Uganda’s Immaculate Chemutai failed to finish the World Athletics Championships Marathon on Monday at Oregon.
Chemutai pulled out at 26km, joining a couple of Women who did not finish the event.
Favourite Ruth Chepngetich from Kenya, the defending champion, also pulled out with stomach issues.
Ethiopian duo of Ashete Bekere and Ababel Yeshaneh are among other athletes who also failed to finish the race.
It’s a sad development for Chemutai who finished 16th last year at the Tokyo Olympics, the highest position ever achieved by a Ugandan.
Gotytom Gebreselase from Ethiopia won the Marathon in a Championship record time of 2:18:11.
Kenya’s Judith Korir and Kenyan-born Israelite Lonah Salpeter picked silver and bronze respectively.
