Jackson Kiprop returns to the World Championships stage for the first time since 2015 after missing London and Doha events.
Kiprop is among the three athletes set to represent Team Uganda at the Men’s Marathon in Eugene for the World Athletics Championships.
Fred Musobo and Filex Chemonges are the other two.
This will be the third Marathon for Kiprop at a World Marathon event – He finished 10th in both events at 2013 Moscow and 2015 Beijing.
The 35-year old came eighth this year in Daegu and will be hoping to push for a place at the top.
Musobo just like Kiprop and Chemonges, were picked ahead of Stephen Kissa who set a new National Record this year in Hamburg.
Musobo came 13th in Doha in 2019, in a race won by Ethiopia’s Lelisa Desisa who will once again be the favourite on Sunday.
Last year at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Musobo was a distant 44th in a time of 2:18:39 while Chemonges came places below in 51st.
Kenya will be led by Geoffrey Kamworor who makes a return after that infamous Motorbike accident two years ago.
Kamworor is a two-time New York Marathon and also won the World Cross Country Championship in 2015 and 2017.
Besides Desisa, Ethiopia also has Tamirat Tola, Mosinet Geremew and Seifa Tura.
The hosts will be banking on the lanky Galen Rupp who won the 2017 Chicago Marathon and came eighth in Tokyo last year.
