Uganda’s search for a Marathon medal at the World Athletics Championships since 2013 goes on.
It’s strong to note that Stephen Kiprotich is the last Ugandan to win a Marathon medal when he clinched gold at the 2013 Moscow championship.
On Sunday in Oregon, none of Uganda’s trio came closest to the podium despite a promising start.
Jackson Kiprop (2:12:14) and Filex Chemonges (2:12:16) came 33rd and 34th respectively while Fred Musobo (2:13:59) finished 40th.
Musobo and Kiprop had kept themselves in the leading pack before running out of steam just after the 29km mark.
Tamirat Tola (2:05:35) of Ethiopia was the winner in a record championship time of 2:05:35 after racing solo in the closing stages.
Mosinet Geremew (Ethiopia) and Bashir Abdi (Belgium) took silver and bronze in that order.
Pre race favourite Geoffrey Kamworor (Kenya) came fifth while Ethiopia’s Lelisa Desisa did not finish (DNF).
