The Rally crew of Umar Dauda and Hamza Lwanga shocked revelers on Sunday after cruising to UMC Fort Portal Rally.

Dauda, starting the day in seventh, brilliantly raced to the top in a fast time of 1:25.38 in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI.

Jonas Kansiime came second while Mark Lubega sealed the podium places.

It’s Dauda’s career best, having finished 6th in the opening NRC round – Rukaari Lake Mburo rally in Mbarara.

He then finished second twice on Kaliro Sugar EMC and Pearl of Africa rallies.

He now moves second on the NRC leaderboard with 188 points, below leader Ponsiano Lwakataka on 262 who pulled out on the first day with an engine failure.

Focus now turns to Garuga for the Yusuf Bukenya fundraising sprint in Garuga on July 24.

The next NRC event will be held in August 5-7 in Masaka-Ssembabule.
