The Uganda Cricket Fraternity on Saturday celebrated William Kamanyi, one of Uganda’s Sports icon.
The celebrations were held at Lugogo Cricket Oval, in a month Kamanyi celebrated his 80th birthday.
A celebratory match was played on the day with Team William (160/All Out in 25 Overs) losing to
Team Kamanyi (163/5 in 22/25 Overs) by 5 Wickets.

Nicknamed ‘Coach Jajja’, Kamanyi notably guided Uganda to the ECACC tournament triumph in 1998 at Lugogo.
He played Cricket as an all rounder between 1971 to 1983, per records, before he was named the National team head coach between 1998 to 2001.
He also played a big role in establishment of a Uganda National Women Cricket team.
In 2014, Kamanyi was awarded with the ICC Lifetime Service Award.
Earlier, the multi-talented Kamanyi represented Uganda in the long-jump during the 1964 Olympics and 1962 Commonwealth games in Perth, Australia.
Sam Walusimbi and Sam Ssewagudde are the other former Cricketers to be celebrated by Uganda Cricket.
