Ponsiano Lwakataka’s Fort Portal Woes Continue

Ponsiano Lwakataka failed to close in on the National Rally Championship title after an early blow in the UMC Fort Portal Rally.

The NRC leader, together with his Co-driver Paul Musaazi in a Subaru Impreza, suffered an engine problem.

Of the two stages done on Saturday, Lwakataka successfully completed Harugongo(24km) before failing to finish at Kyakaigo 5km.

It’s the third time Lwakataka has failed to complete a Fort Portal Rally after similar events in 2019 and 2018.

Going into this event, Lwakataka had talked about approaching Fort Portal with much caution this time round.

He will remain on top of the NRC with 262 points after four events.

His closest competitor on NRC leaderboard Jas Mangat pulled out a day before over personal reasons. Rajiv Ruparelia and Arthur Blick and Fred Busulwa are some of the top drivers who did not register for the Fort Portal event.

Duncan Mubiru, in a Ford Fiesta, took Day One’s bragging rights in a quickest time of 32:37.9.

Mike Mukula came second despite winning three of the four sections of day one while Mark Lubega and Jonas Kansiime follow in that order after day one.

Decisive day is Sunday that has Karim Hirji (10km), Harugongo (25.6km) and Kyakaigo (6km) stages.
