Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC have agreed a two-year deal with Nigeria striker Abubakar Lawal.
Lawal, 26, joins Vipers from AS Kigali and has already bid farewell to his club, as first reported by New Times in Rwanda.
He bagged eight goals and 10 assists in all competitions for AS Kigali and leaves the side he joined 2020.
He played for Nasarawa United in Nigeria Professional Football League and scored Seven goals in 18 games before the 2019/20 season was halted by COVID.
Lawal, is a former Nigerian U-20 international and also featured for Wikki Tourists of Bauchi and Kano Pillars.
The Nigerian had his last game with AS Kigali recently as the side edged APR FC 1-0 in the Peace Cup final to book a ticket to the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup.
He joins UPL Champions and will be a big boost for the club that will feature in CAF Champions League next season.
He provides selection headache for coach Roberto Oliveira whose attacking options include Yunus Sentamu and Cesar Manzoki, the latter being linked with a move away from the club.
Did you know – Lawal was brought down in the box by Musa Ramathan, for Muhadjiri Hakizimana to score the only AS Kigali goal who lost 3-1 to KCCA at Kitende in the CAF Confederation Cup Qualifiers, but progressed on away goals after a 3-3 draw on aggregate.
