JKL Lady Dolphins needed overtime to overcome a resilient UCU Canons side in a thrilling NBL game at Lugogo.
Despite trailing by 17 points at one stage, UCU put in a strong fourth quarter to force overtime in a game they came short of breaking JKL’s unbeaten run.
Rose Akon made an intelligent pass to a free Milicent Otieno who easily laid up at the buzzer, 61-61, to draw wild celebrations inside Lugogo Arena.
But the Mukono-based side were thereafter restricted to just 2 points in overtime as JKL made amends to win by 11 points.
Akon (28 points and 19 rebounds) did anything and everything to see UCU come through with a monstrous show but in vain.
Akon lacked enough support, besides Millicent Otieno (15 points), as no other UCU player scored in double digits, with the whole bench managing just five points.
Hope Akello led with a double double of 19 points and 16 rebounds, Evelyn Nakiyinji and Flavia Oketcho had 12 and 10 points respectively for the two-time NBL champions.
JKL also unveiled new signing Taidenciah Oluoch and the Kenyan picked 15 rebounds on her debut.
Coach Nicholas Natuhereza will be pleased with his team’s never give up attitude once again and it was an Improved performance from their first round loss against the same opponent.
JKL have maintained their unbeaten run and have won 10 from as many games.
In the men’s division, Titus Lual scored 17 points and 15 rebounds as UCU Canons eased past KIU Titans to extend their lead at the top.
