Uganda’s U18 Girls basketball team, the Junior Gazelles, eased past Tanzania to record their second win from as many games at the ongoing 2022 FIBA Afrobasket Zone V Qualifiers.
The win was built on a strong second half that saw Ali Mavita’s charges limit Tanzania to just 4 and 6 points in the third and fourth quarter respectively.
Tanzania had matched Uganda in the opening exchanges, with the side trailing by just 6 points at halftime before they were blown away.
Immaculate Adongpiny was 6-for-12 to lead the way with 13 points and 7 rebounds.
Mariam Namukwaya had 12 points while Darlene Tashobya contributed 10 points on 2-for-3 shooting from the three-point range.

None of Tanzania players scored in double figures, with Nelious Mbugeni top scoring with 8 points while Pauline Mollel and Magreth Manawa Mhondo adding 6 points each.
It was a more improved and commanding performance for the Junior Gazelles from their 71-50 win over Rwanda on Tuesday.
They committed 29 turnovers, 10 lesser than they made in a 71-50 win over Rwanda.
And the Girls will fancy their chances to beat the two sides again – Rwanda (Friday) and Tanzania (Saturday) – to seal a ticket to the U18 FIBA Afrobasket.
