*KCCA Leopards 51-63 UCU Lady Canons
*Power 53-66 UCU Canons
UCU finally won their first game in the second round of the Tusker-Lite sponsored NBL.
The 2019 NBL finalist beat Power 66-53 in a thriller at Indoor Arena in Lugogo.
The Canons return to winning ways having lost to City Oilers and KCCA Panthers in their first two games of the second round.
Fadhil Chuma led the way with a game high 16 points and completed his double-double with 10 rebounds for the Canons.
Lwabaga Ibanda and Jerry Kayanga added 10 points each, the latter filling the stat sheet with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Stephen Otoa and Isaac Afidra had 13 and 11 points respectively and were the only two Power players to score in double digits.
UCU limited Power to just five points in the first quarter, to lead 17-5, but the five time champions fought back to take a 29-28 lead at halftime.
UCU led 45-42 going into the last quarter and pummeled Power in the fourth quarter (21-11) to win by 13 points.
It was a deserved win for Nicholas Natuhereza’s charges who continue to persevere without influential point guard Fayed Bbale, and they were good value for the result having out rebounded Power 56-40.
UCU at one stage looked like they were giving it away, but benefited from Power’s mistakes to get the job done.
Bernies Ankunda’s charges failed to take care of the ball, rushed their offense and made unnecessary turnovers before seeing their five-game winning streak come to an end.
It’s their fourth loss in the season having lost to UCU 69-45 in the first round in Mukono.
The Canons consolidate their place in second place on the table with 12 wins and three losses.
UCU return to action against Victoria University on Sunday June 12, facing the only side to have beaten them in the first round.
Power will seek to make amends when they face KCCA Panthers on June 22.
