Nam Blazers new signing Ken Wachira lived up to the billing with a masterpiece performance on his debut.
Wachira who joined Namuwongo from KPA (Kenya) went 7 for 14 from outside in a 64-52 win over UPDF Tomahawks at YMCA court in Wandegeya.
Cheered on by the crowd, the last season’s Kenya Basketball League MVP added 10 rebounds and two assists.
He knocked down shot by shot at every opportunity he was given an open look.
And he turned on the swag when he at one point refused to attack just one remaining UPDF defender, fancied his chances to score from outside, and bang he delivered!
His game high 27-point performance was complimented by Paul Odong’s 12 points and Daniel Juuko’s 10 rebounds as Nam Blazers avenged their first round loss against UPDF.
Stephen Nyeko also afforded to rest forwards David Deng ‘Dikong’ Kongor and Joseph Ikong who were not listed on the day’s squad.
It’s the eighth win for Nam Blazers in 12 games, and this was their first game of the second round.
And they will return to action against Ndejje University Angels on June 25 at YMCA.
David Okello scored 13 points, Arthur Wanyoto and Ferdinand Odama added 9 and 7 points in that order for UPDF who were without head coach Bayer Kyambadde.
