Uganda Premier League has set June 16th 2022 as the tentative dates for the 2021/22 Season Awards.
Launched earlier in January this year, the awards that are being sponsored by Pilsner Lager, will seek to recognise excellency for the concluded season.
UPL board member Peter Kibazo said that the set dates may change due to “logistical reasons” and pushed few days ahead.
Kibazo, addressing the media on Tuesday at Kati Kati, briefly commented: “We have journeyed with Pilsner for the past seasons, they have tested the waters; we started with individual awards for certain games – Pilsner Man of the Match – and that has been a success, and we are glad to have these season awards back.”
The Season Awards were last held in 2016/17 when then KCCA FC striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma was crowned the best player of the season.
The proposed venue for the awards that will climax an exciting season won by Vipers, is Kati Kati Gardens in Lugogo.
Thirteen categories, as it was earlier announced, will be awarded on the night.
The biggest award is the Player of the season which will go to the Best Player of the 2021/22 season, SUPL Finest XI (Best Eleven of the season) and Platinum Award are the other categories.
Best Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder and Coach of the season will be recognised.
Best young player, Top scorer (player with most goals), Most Assists, Fair Play team, Players’ Player (voted for by players), Coaches’ Player (voted by coaches).
League manager Paul Kabaikaramu commented that the key focus areas for the awards are Credibility, Quality Accolades and Fan Involvement.
The categories that will involve fan involvement will be as follows:
The Public will nominate their best selection (player for example), the panel will choose three players per category from the fans selection, then the public and other stakeholders will vote on the three nominees before the winner is announced on the Technical Panel.
The League Secretariat will in the due course release a voting link for the fans to use.
