CECAFA Women: Tanzania Come From Down to Deny Ethiopia

Saturday 4th June
Ethiopia 2-2 Tanzania

Tanzania twice came from down to draw with Ethiopia in an entertaining encounter of the group B CECAFA women championship in Njeru.

Abera Loza put Ethiopia in the lead when she capitalized on a loose ball in the Tanzania defence to loop over the goalkeeper in the 8th minute of the game.

Ethiopia lost concentration in defence giving striker OPA Clement a chance to draw the scores in the 25th minute as they failed to clear the ball from their backline.

With the first stanza going into a break on level, the Ethiopian team came back stronger and pushed Tanzania, and they soon got the goods.

They had a couple of chances which saw Rediet Assresahagn’s hard powerful shot hit the post before Mesay Temesgen capitalized on a defensive error by Protasia Mabunda to restore their lead in the 63rd minute.

Tanzania pushed hard for an equaliser but they failed to beat the well organized Ethiopia defence until their efforts were rewarded after a powerful free kick from Enekia Kasonga which beat the Goalkeeper for an equaliser.

Both Tanzania and Ethiopia will confirm their qualification to the semifinal round only if they pick positive results in their last group games.
