CECAFA Women: Ethiopia Batter Zanzibar

Ethiopia have obliterated Zanzibar 5-0 in the group B early kick-off match in the CECAFA Women Championship at the FUFA technical center in Njeru.

Loza Abera and Kidist Zeleke both scored two goals each and Aregash Kalsa netted the fastest goal in the tournament to complete a 5-0 score under hot conditions in Njeru.

Ethiopia dominated the game from the start which saw Aregash Kalsa open up the scoring with an early goal with just a minute after Kickoff as she looped over the Zanzibar Goalkeeper Zuwena Yassin.

Loza Abera opened her scoring when she pounced on a loose ball in the Zanzibar defence to slot home from close range leaving the keeper beaten in the 27th minute.

Ethiopia kept on pilling the pressure against Zanzibar as Zuwena Yassin made a couple of saves to deny the Ethiopians.

In the first half, Marry Joakini made a timely block to deny Kalsa a second goal in her name after being set up by Loza Abera.

In the second stanza, Roza doubled her tally with just 10 minutes after the second half.

Kidist Zeleke spared some time to move from defence and bag a brace onto her name when she headed in from close range a free kick taken in by Nyabounyi Yein in the 73rd minute.

She later doubled her tally in the 86th minute with a header from the corner from the same provider Nyabounyi Yein.

Despite conceding five, Zuwena Yassin had a couple of brilliant saves as she denied Loza Abera on two occasions in a keeper to beat effort.

Ethiopia now currently sit top of group B with a clear advantage of progressing to the semi finals.
