The Uganda national boxing team, the Bombers, dominated the Mount Kilimanjaro Boxing championships to leave with six medals – 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.

Tukamuhebwa Joshua, Nkobeza Yusuf and Kyobe Jonah each collected gold after winning their final bouts in the championship whereas Nakimuli Teddy and Kibira Owen settled for silver and Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jr bagged bronze.

Tukamuhebwa defeated Emmanuel Katema from Zambia on RSC decision in the third round to clinch gold medal in the light welterweight category.

Nkobeza Yusuf overcame Kevin Kipinge in the second round for a gold medal fight in the middle weight category.

Kyobe who had just two fights in the championship came out victorious on the final day as he defeated Emmanuel Marwa from Tanzania to win Gold in the Feather weight category.

Kyobe had earlier won against John Mchonga from Tanzania with a second round win to storm the finals.

Kibira Owen who defeated Rall Zirakoze from Burundi by a K/O in the semi-final fight was later denied a gold medal after falling to Shaft Mandwe of Zambia in a 2-1 loss to settle for silver in the welterweight category.

Nakimuli, despite losing her first bout, defeated Sarah Alex from Tanzania to reach the final in the Fly weight.

But she lost her fight in the finals against Margret Tembo from Zambia, she lost her second battle against the same opponent in the championships to only settle for a silver medal.

Isaac Zebra Ssenyange lost the semifinals bout against Kassim Mbudwikr from Tanzania in a 2-1 spit decision. He collected a bronze medal after winning his bronze medal fight in the light middle category.

The triumph gives Uganda Bombers confidence as the prepare for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
