Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei fell short in his bid to break his 5000m World Record.
Cheptegei, however, was victorious in the 5000m race on Saturday morning in Eugene, Oregon (United States).
His time in Eugene of 12:57.99 is few seconds adrift of his WR time of 12:35.36 which he posted in Monaco in 2020.
Then, he erased two seconds off a 16-year old World Record time that was set by Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele.
Ok Sunday morning, he came over three seconds ahead of Ethiopia’s Milkesha Mengesha (13:01.11) while Kenya’s Daniel Simiu Ebenyo (13:10.61) finished third.
Four Ugandan athletes Peruth Chemutai, Halimah Nakaayi, Jacob Kiplimo and Winnie Nanyondo are competing in the early Monday morning hours in the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, USA.
