The local organizing committee for the forthcoming 2022 CECAFA Women Championship has promised tight Security ahead of the tournament kickoff in Uganda.
This will be the first CECAFA tournament to be held this year and Uganda has promised to deliver.
Last year, Uganda hosted the CECAFA U20 Women Championship at Njeru which was marred by the disappearance of the five Eritrean footballers from their hotel in Jinja.
That, was the second time in two years that Eritreans went missing from a Cecafa Under-20 in Uganda, after five male players fled their hotel in the country in 2019.

“We did better last year at least because in the previous Cecafa, the whole team disappeared and we remained with the coach and kitman,” said Local Organising Committee Chairman Hon Nakiwala Kiyingi.
“Because four (five) players left. And we reported the matter to Police.”
“This time round we have managed to tighten the security. And we are now ensured that all the teams will be given 24-hour security, and we have been provided with lead cars for each team. And team Guides have been put in place.
“We have engaged the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The Station Police and Guards will be put at their Hotels to keep our beautiful Girls.”
Hon. Nakiwala also revealed that the teams will undertake COVID-19 tests.
The fans will be allowed to watch the games free of charge.
Two matches will be played per day, starting June 1st to June 11th and games will be live on FUFA TV.
