The race for the best UPL Goalkeeper was won by Arua Hill’s Richard Anyama after his cleansheet against Express in the last game of the season.
Heading into the final Matchday, Anyama and Mutombora were tied on 10 cleansheets.
For Mutombora, it was already game over after he was ruled out for the rest of the season having picked an injury against URA last month.
The Burundian was given a boardroom cleansheet against Tooro United having lost the initial match 1-0 but Tooro United used ineligible player and Vipers were awarded the three points.
Breakdown of the Cleansheets
Fabian Mutombora
The Burundian’s first cleansheet of the season was in the first game of the season in a 2-0 victory over Police in October at MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium.
His second was in a 5-0 humiliation of Wakiso Giants on 22nd October 2021 at the St Mary’s stadium Kitende.
On 2nd November, he kept his third cleansheet after a 1-0 home win over Onduparaka at the St Mary’s stadium Kitende.
Vipers defeated Tooro United 1-0 on 18th December at the St Mary’s stadium Kitende.
Mutombora’s fifth cleansheet was after a 1-0 away victory to Bright Stars at Kavumba Recreation Ground on 21st December.
On 2nd February 2022, Vipers were comfortable 3-0 winners over SC Villa in the rescheduled match at the St Mary’s stadium Kitende.
Having lost the initial match 1-0 against Tooro United at Buhinga Stadium on 11th March 2022, Vipers were awarded 3-0 victory after they petitioned that the home team Tooro United fielded an ineligible player Ronald Kayondo.
Mutombora didn’t concede after his side defeated Busoga United 2-0 at the St Mary’s stadium Kitende on 16th March.
On 5th April, Mutombora kept another cleansheet after a 2-0 home victory over Mbarara City at St Mary’s stadium Kitende.
His final cleansheet and the 10th of the season was against URA in a 3-0 victory at the Arena of Visions on 12th April, but he was substituted in the 71st minute after an injury.
He went on to miss seven games after being ruled out for the rest of the season.
Richard Anyama
The 2020-2021 FUFA Big League Goalkeeper of the year registered 11 cleansheets for the Kongolo in their maiden season.
Like Mutombora, Anyama also kept two cleansheets in the first two games of the season. In the first match after a 2-0 triumph over Express in Wankulukuku on 15th October 2021.
He followed it with another in the West Nile Derby after a goalless draw at Barifa Ground on 26th October in the second game of the season.
On 4th January 2022, Anyama Registered his third cleansheet of the season with a man of the match performance against Vipers in a 1-0 home victory at the Barifa Ground.
Former Onduparaka Shotstopper was in goal when his side played out a goalless draw with Police FC at MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium on 9th January.
His fifth cleansheet of the season was against Police FC in a 2-0 victory at the Barifa Ground on 5th February.
On 15th March, Arua Hill defeated Bright Stars 1-0 at Barifa Ground with Anyama between the sticks.
Anyama was in goal when the Kongolo were held to a goalless draw by Tooro at Buhinga Stadium on 25th March.
This was followed by another goalless draw with URA at the Arena of Visions on 30th March.
On 11th April, Anyama helped his team to a goalless draw with KCCA at the MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium.
His 10th cleansheet of the season was in a 3-0 victory over rivals Onduparaka in the West Nile Derby at the Ababet Greenlight Stadium on 6th May 2022.
Anyama’s 11th cleansheet came in the last game against Express in a 1-0 home win at Barifa Ground on Saturday 21st May.
