JKL Lady Dolphins skipped KIU Rangers hurdle to remain unbeaten in the 2022 Tusker-Lite sponsored NBL season.
The two-time champions however had to survive a late KIU surge in what proved to be their closest game of eight this season.
KIU Rangers matched JKL toe-to-toe and the latter led by just a point at halftime (39-38).
Is Poor Officiating Hurting NBL?
JKL started to pull away, and opened the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run to open a 18-point gap in a five-minute spell that saw KIU shoot 0-for-6!
But the Rangers exhibited a high fighting spirit ignited by pint-sized point guard Fildauce Namuleme who shot three triples to bring her side within three points with just half a minute on the clock.
They could have done better when they got possession after Stella Oyella fluffed a lay-up, but having used all their timeouts, the Rangers failed to make good use of their possession and Ines Kanyamunza saw her lay-up rim out and with it, went all their chances.
Hope Akello led the way with a double double of 18 points and 12 rebounds to collect another Tusker-Lite player of the match accolade.
Brenda Ekone scored a game high 20 points, while Evelyn Nakiyinji filled Flavia Oketcho’s boots with 12 points and 5 assists.
Ines Kanyamunza had 15 points, Fildauce scored all her 12 points from downtown while Perus Nyamwenge had 13 points in a losing effort.
It was a great fight for Rogers Sserunyigo’s Girls, and you could feel that they every player everything on the court.
Sharon Kirabo had 13 rebounds and 4 assist while Patricia Cate Nakiru had 10 points including two beautiful back-to-back threes that gave KIU a fighting stance when JKL tried to pull away.
JKL have won eight in as many games and will be ending their first round tie with a pending fixture against Nabisunsa Girls which was postponed weeks back.
