•Booma FC Vs BUL – Masindi
Wednesday, May 11
•Mbarara City Vs Vipers – Kakyeka
Booma FC have expressed their readiness to take first leg advantage when they host BUL FC at Masindi Municipal Stadium in the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The Regional League side have already punched above their weight in this competition after a splendid run to reach this level.
They beat Nyamityobora in round of 64, eliminated Kajjansi United at Round of 32, ousted Tipsa at Round of 16 before knocking out Maroons at the Quarterfinals.
“It’s an achievement as a team, this is our first time to reach this level. We must give them respect because they are ahead of us in terms of the league hierarchy,” said Booma FC coach Fred Alinaitwe.
“I have to tell you that our journey has not been easy, we have faced a lot of challenges, in the terms of teams we have faced, this one is another challenge but the fact that we are at home, we are going to have another strategy to see that we can advance to another level.
“BUL a stronger team, very organized. But we are determined and ready to do what it takes to see ourselves in the finals of Uganda Cup.”
Alinaitwe says that they are going to attack and want to score many goals so that they take a good cushion in the return leg.
The gaffer, who has been with the club for the last 10 years, said that his players are ready to take on a UPL side.
Booma FC Who?
Booma has surprised everyone to reach this stage, in fact, the last time they played in this competition, they were knocked by Police FC at Round of 64.
This team was started in 2012 by a group of Ex-players who used to train from Masindi Booma ground most of which are now managers.
They are currently playing in FUFA Regional league under Kitara Region, Albert group and currently on top of 11 team Albert group.
Last season, they were knocked out at Finals for Big league promotion play off at Njeru FUFA TC by Tiles n Terrazo of Western Region in penalties.
Kambale Adrine has scored 11 goals for the side in Regional League this season.
BUL FC Targets Another Trip To the Final
It seems like yesterday since BUL FC were humiliated by Vipers 8-1 at Njeru in the Uganda Cup finals.
But the Eastern Giants are now ready to make amends, and in landing Booma in the draw ahead of fellow UPL sides Vipers and Mbarara City hands them a good chance to return to the finals.
“Our strategy is not to concede away and at least have a goal scored in that encounter then we finish it at home in the second leg,” said BUL assistant coach Richard Kasule.
“It’s a big chance for us to make it and represent our country at the CAF Confederation Cup. We have to be very cautious about the opponent, they have come a long way, have conceded the least goals. We reached the finals before so we know it’s not easy. But by the end of the day, we shall have the last laugh.”
Kasule on their 8-1 loss in the final against Vipers last season, said that they did not have a good squad on the day, and a trip back to the final is a chance to prove it.
BUL FC have spent three days in Masindi ahead of the clash but if they are to take first leg advantage, they have to do it with a couple of missing players.
Captain George Kasonko is suspended, goalkeeper Saidi Keni is ruled out for the whole season, Lawrence Kasadha and Richard Ayiko are out injured while Martin Aprem is sick despite travelling with the team.
To reach this stage, BUL got a walkover against Bundimasoli at round of 64, knocked out Busoga United at Round of 32 then eliminated Bright Stars via shootouts at Round of 16 before beating SC Villa at the Quarterfinals.
