UPDF Goalkeeper Brian Bwete has confirmed that he will hang his gloves at the end of this season.
The Custodian made the announcement on his Facebook page confirming that his last game will be against Onduparaka at the Bombo Military Barracks Ground.
“My First Game in the Premier League was between SC Villa and Simba (UPDF FC) so I apply my request to retire from active football on the last day and game in Uganda Premier League between UPDF FC (Simba FC) and Onduparaka FC” Confirmed the Shot-stopper on his Facebook page.
He continues “I love you football, I love you Soccer, I love you football. Will always hurt you dear future”.
Bwete joined UPDF at the start of the season from Suhur Shire in Ethiopia and made 13 appearances for the Army side including a man of the match performance against Express.
He only kept one cleansheet against Express and conceeded 26 goals in 12 matches for UPDF this season.
However, his time at UPDF was hindered by injuries and a drop in form that saw him relegated to the bench and Wasswa Yusuf taking his place between the sticks.
His last game for Brian Senyondo side was a 1-0 home defeat to Wakiso Giants in March at the Bombo Military Barracks Ground.
In a 1-0 home loss to Police FC, Bwete was brought on as an on field player replacing Ibrahim Wammanah in the 85th minute.
Bwete who also featured for the Uganda Cranes National Team has been a journeyman having featured for a number of clubs like Hearts United in Kadiba Mengo, CRO FC, Kisanja FC, SC Villa, URA FC, Lweza FC, BUL FC, OC Bukavu Dawa in Congo, Zambia’s Mufulira Wanderers, Suhul Shire of Ethiopia and now UPDF were he will retire from.
The Shotstopper won the 2014 Uganda Cup with URA in Mbale beating KCC 4-2 on Penalties after a 2-2 draw in full-time.
He saved two Penalties and scored the decisive kick.
