Shekar Mehta, the first stage of the 2022 Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, has been cancelled due to a morning downpour.
The morning rain has created floods on the section, deeming the pathways impassable.
The Shekar Mehta section was 25.56km long.
“We had to cancel this stage because there is a lot of mud, forget mud but there are floods there,” FMU President Dipu Ruparelia has said.
“Route openers and everybody are stuck in there, the safety martials in their vehicles are also stuck.
“Lugazi the way it is, is cotton soil, so FIA found it fit and also the organisers my team found it fit that this particular section needs to be cancelled.”
Rally drivers are hoping that the rally is raced to the required percentage so that all the points are available for the taking.
The latest developments have it that this year’s rally will now start from the second stage – Kivuvu 1 which is 20.45km.
The starting order has not been altered.
This year’s rally, funded by Shell V-Power, counts to Africa and National Rally Championships.
