Kagimu Scores Brace as URA Sink 10-man Bright Stars

A brace from Captain Shafik Kagimu and one other from Cromwell Rwothomio inspired URA FC past relegation threatened Bright Stars whose only goal was scored by Joseph Janjali in the Uganda Premier League game played at the Arena of Visions.

URA are now a point below second-placed KCCA as they hope to finish in the top 2.

For Bright Stars, they have lost back to back games and are now just two points above relegation with two games to go.

Goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi was called early into action punching away Mugume cross for a corner as the Visitors started brightly.

Rwothomio broke the deadlock for URA as early as 9th minute with a volley from a Kagimu pass.

Viane Sekajugo forced Goalkeeper Derrick Were into a decent save as the hosts pressed for another goal.

Kagimu doubled the host’s lead in the 16th minute off a long ball from Goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi that jumped the visitor’s defence.

Goalkeeper Were Derrick with another save this time pushing away Sserubiri freekick before Mugume had his shot go wide for the visitors.

Three minutes into half an hour, the Skipper Shafik Kagimu made it three to complete his brace in the 33th minute.

Nelson Senkatuka could have pulled one back for the visitors but his header from an Odong cross went wide.

The first attempt of the second half fell to the visitors through Mugume low freekick that was saved by Goalkeeper Alionzi.

Bright Stars was reduced to 10 men after Fiat Cleophas was sent off for a second booking in the 88th minute.

Despite being a man less, Bright Stars were twice denied by the woodwork with both Kasinde and Janjali hitting the cross bar.

Janjali pulled one back for the visitors tapping in a Kasinde cross in the 93rd minute.

URA are 3rd on the log with 52 points after 28 matches while Bright Stars are 12th with 30 points in 28 matches.

Next fixtures

URA will host Busoga on Saturday 14th May at the Arena of Visions while Bright Stars will travel away to Onduparaka at the Ababet Greenlight Stadium on the same day.
