Preview: Battle for West Nile Bragging Rights.
The Leopard or Caterpillar? Is Arua city Green or Red? Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the West Nile Derby as Arua Hill make a short trip across the city to face rivals Onduparaka at Greenlight Stadium.
Work will come at a standstill as the Old boys of Onduparaka FC host the new boys in town Arua Hill SC in a highly anticipated West Nile derby.
After losing their six-match unbeaten run following a 2-0 loss to Vipers in Arua, Onduparaka will feel there is no better way to return to winning ways that a win against your City rival.
And after fetching a point in the first-round fixture in a barren draw played in October last year at Barifa stadium, Onduparaka will feel they are the better side going into this huge contest.
The fixture comes at a time after the Caterpillars who were in relegation by beginning of April, have redeemed themselves by winning five in a row before drawing to BUL and losing to vipers.
They are 8th on the log with 34 points, and since and somehow safe from relegation than earlier before.
“This is history being written in West Nile and how we write it for the first-time matters, we have to leave our differences, come out in numbers, show our passion for football and seal the legacy as Ugandan football’s best region,” said Onduparaka Technical manager now acting Coach Dudu Bosco.
Arua Hill have impressed on their debut season in top flight and will be looking forward to keeping their top four finish hopes alive.
They are current in fifth position with 46 points, below BUL who is fourth with goal advantage and just three points below third placed URA FC, so a top four finish for Kongolo is still within reach.
They are on a ten-match unbeaten run, picked their back to back wins when they overcame Mbarara city 2-1 in their last encounter, backing a 2-0 win against Busoga United after recording four successive draws, they last lost to Vipers 3-0 in February which is their only defeat in second round.
Its going to be a tense return to Greenlight stadium for head coach Livingstone Mbabazi, former captains Gaddafi Wahab not forgetting Geriga Atendele and Gaddafi Gadinho, but they are ready to take the day according to assistant coach Ahmad Borini
“The goalless draw in our first fixture presented to us an idea on how we are going to approach the return fixture, we took notice after that game and we have been working hard the entire week to get the result and am hoping for better result in this derby to match our target,” said Borini.
Onduparaka is banking on hot striker Shaban Muhammad on 15 goals while Arua Hill’s Alfred Leku is on 11.
