University Football League: Makerere Pick Second Win

Makerere University 2-0 Mbarara University of Science and Technology


Makerere University registered their second win of the UFL season after a 2-0 triumph over Mbarara University of Science and Technology at Makerere Arena.

Second half goals from Omwemugisha Bahinguzi and Kasaga Sadat were enough for Makerere to silence the Mbarara.

Makerere University was also victorious over YMCA after a 1-0 home win following Kasaga Sadat first Half penalty.

Mbarara have lost all their opening two matches of the group after a 2-1 loss to St Lawrence University in the opener.

The first early chance of the game fell to Namaisi who lobbed the ball over the bar the visitors before Kasaga beat the visitors defence but they later recovered to clear the ball.

The visitors could have taken the lead through Miiro from a Kato delivery but the hosts made a timely inception to block the ball from seeing the back of the net.

It was an end to end affair in the opening half hour this time Kasaga finding Ssejjange with a through ball but his shot went over the bar.

Mbarara caught Makerere on the break but substitute Agaba’s shot was deflected by Katembako into the gloves of the Goalkeeper Zzimula.

Nothing could separate the two sides in the opening 45 minutes.

Makerere came back more hungry in the second half with just two minutes into the second stanza Omwemugisha Bahinguzi broke the deadlock with a powerful shot in the 47th minute to give the hosts the lead.

Musaazi made a timely inception to clear the ball after Ssejjange was looking for Okeny as the hosts were looking for the second goal.

In the 70th minute, Kasaga Sadat doubled the hosts lead with a powerful header at the near post.

Okeny could have made it three for the hosts but his header went over the bar from a nice delivery from Kasaga before Ssekimbegga low cross was cleared away.

Kasaga forced a nice save from Byaruhanga in what proved to be the last chance of the game.

Makerere University are now top of Group D with 6 points after two matches while M.U.S.T are bottom of the group in the fourth place without any point after two matches.
