Wakiso Giants 1-3 Vipers
Vipers SC registered a deserved 3-1 win over Wakiso Giants to reach this year’s Semi finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup in a quarter final game held on Sunday at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
A first half goal from Boboosi Byaruhanga and a second half brace from Yunus Sentamu ensured that the Venoms reached the next stage.
Substitute Sam Senyonjo scored the only goal for Wakiso Giants as they bowed out of this year’s competition.
The win brightens up Vipers chances to win a double this season, their first in club history. In the league, they are just two points away from being crowned Champions.
Bobosi put Vipers ahead in 21st minute after collecting from brilliant Frank Zaga pass, and his goal was the difference before the break.
The Venoms, who had the bigger share of the ball, created more chances to score more but Ceaser Manzoki headed wide Milton Karisa’s well delivered cross before Zaga missed a seater.
For Wakiso Giants, they barely threatened throughout as they looked blunt in the final third.
At the restart, Vipers started the better side with a flurry of attacks to add on their tally.
And in the 50th minute, Sentamu made it two thanks to a pass from Milton Karisa.
The Venoms kept on pushing for another and it paid off with nine minutes to play through Sentamu, who benefited from Bobosi Byaruhanga’s assist to complete his brace.
Wakiso Giants pulled one back four minutes later through substitute Senyonjo but the damage had already been caused.
Vipers now become the second team to reach this year’s Semi finals after Booma United who eliminated Maroons earlier on Friday.
The Venoms, who are the defending champions will fancy their chances to win this one again having won it last year when they thrashed Bul FC at Njeru.
