Video: Nakaayi Headlines Fortebet Real Stars March Winners

Middle distance runner Halimah Nakaayi was among the winners at the ForteBet Real Stars monthly awards.

Nakaayi took home the award for best Athlete for the month of March, beating off competition from Joshua Cheptegei and Andrew Kwemoi.

She deservedly took home the award after winning Bronze in 800m at the World Indoor Championships last month in Belgrade, Serbia.

“It’s all about working hard and giving it your all then everything will be within your reach,” said Nakaayi. “My medal will inspire generations.”

Nakaayi expressed her readiness ahead of the World Championships in Oregon later this year where she will go all out to win her World title she won in Doha in 2019.

On winning the ForteBet Real Stars award, she added: “This is a big motivation if you are rewarded for your work hard. Becoming a champion takes a lot of commitment and days of attainment so I commend ForteBet for recognising performers.”

In Belgrade, Nakaayi clocked 2:00.66 to finish behind race winner Ajee Wilson of USA (1:59.09) and Freweyne Hailu of Ethiopia (2:00.54).

Moreen Mwamula was voted the Best Volleyball Player in the Month of March when Ndejje Elites won three games to seal a playoff place in style.

She beat Nemo Stars players George Aporu and Jonathan Tumukundane to the gong.

“I really appreciate the organisers for rewarding us the athletes. This is big for me because I last won an award (MVP) back in 2013. Allow me thank Ndejje University for giving me a platform and my family as well for encouraging me,” Mwamula commented.

Winners and officials

Ponsiano Lwakataka was voted the best in Motor Sport category ahead of Arthur Blick and Hassan Alwi.

Lwakataka who won the Kaliro Sugar rally in Jinja, tops the NRC leaderboard having won the opening Mbarara Rally.

He also expressed his readiness to win the upcoming Pearl of Africa Rally.

Aaron Ofoyroth (Rugby) of Heathens, Rukia Naiga (Pool) and Elvis Ngonde (Football) of Busoga United were the other winners.
