Defending Champions Lady Doves beat newbies Rines 2-1 in their FUFA women Super League encounter played at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
Lydia Nyandera and Docus Kwikiriza scored for the visitors who registered their second win of the season and their first away victory.
Joanita Ainembabazi scored the only hosts’ goal who continued their winless run at home since the start of the season.
A win saw Lady Doves climbing from 8th to 6th on the log with 9 points while a loss leaves Rines stuck second feom the bottom in 9th with 6 points from 8 games.
It was an entertaining opening half as both sides tried to showcase their ability for much needed maximum points.
The Visitors had the first check in when goalkeeper Bridget Nansamba spilled Fazila Ikwaput’s close attempt before Catherine Wujja cleared it away out of danger, inside the first seven minutes.
Five minutes later, Rose Bamaniriza at the other end punched out Aminah Nababi’s beautiful turn into a corner.
In the 17th minute, Lydia Nyandera handed lead to the Visitors when she looped Nansamba who was off her line after receiving from Ikwaput at the edge of the box.
Three minutes after, Yasmeen Nalukwago who was unmarked inside the Visitors box had a chance fo get the equalizer but fired her close range attempt far wide before skying Ainembabazi’s free kick rebound which was denied by the crossbar.
In the 27th minute, Ainembabazi beautifully excuted Amina’s brilliant effort to level matters.
At the stroke of half time, Ikwaput had a chance to reclaim the Visitor’s lead but she missed a simple tap-in when she misfired Vicky Veronica’s effort to end first half at 1-1.
The tactical double substitution of Norah Alupo and Ritah Nabbosa who replaced Lucy Atono and Sumaya Nsisi at the restart proved the difference for the Visitors who enjoyed the highest bid of the proceedings which saw them winning at the end.
In the 60th minute, Kwikiriza capitalized on goalkeeper Nansamba’s howler who lost possession after Nantongo’s backpass for chasing Kwikiriza to score into an empty net.
Visitors piled more pressure which saw what would be Kwikiriza’s second goal canceled for offside while Norah Alupo’s tap in also ruled out for offside in a space of two minutes.
In the 78th minute, Ikwaput was presented with only a goalkeeper-to-beat chance but Nansamba pulled a brilliant save with a slide to before the same Ikwaput side-netted Nyandera’s through pass.
With 10 minutes to play, Alupo got another clear chance with a comfortable range of space but her effort rattled the wood work before Kwikiriza fired wide yet another goal keeper to beat chance.
Rines will play Uganda Martyrs in their next fixture while Lady Doves will wait for second round fixture released having completed its first round matches.
