A total of five players have walked away with match-day balls in the ongoing 2021/22 season of the Startimes Uganda Premier League so far.
Three of the five – Yunus Sentamu and Steven Mukwala who were the League top scorers in the last two seasons, as well as Viane Ssekajuko – have gone on to score four goals.
BUL FC Forward Ibrahim Nsimbe and Arua Hill Winger Rashid Kawawa complete the list of the players who have notched a treble or more in a single game.
Sentamu was the first player to score a hat-trick this season in Viper’s 5-0 win over Wakiso Giants at the St Mary’s stadium Kitende on 22nd October 2021 where he saw the back of the net four times.
The 2020/2021 UPL Top Scorer with 16 goals scored a first half brace in the 11th and 22nd minute before completing his hatrick in the 61st minute and added his fourth of the day seven minutes later.
Mukwala also bagged a quadruple when URA humiliated Tooro United 6-1 at the Arena of Visions on 23rd November 2021 becoming the second player to score four goals this season. Mukwala could have ended the day with five goals in fact, but he had a goal wrongly disallowed.
In the space of 10 minutes, the former Maroons and Vipers forward who was the League top scorer in 2019/2020 had notched a brace in the 21st and 31st minute before adding another double in the second half in the 56th and 60th minute.
BUL’s Ibrahim Nsimbe joins the list of the players with a hat-trick this season. Signed from relegated MYDA FC, Nsimbe saw the back the net thrice in a 5-0 victory over rivals Busoga United in the Derby On 7th December 2021. Musa Esenu now at Rayon Sport and Richard Wandyaka were also on the scoresheet.
Nsimbe scored a halftime brace in the 23rd minute and 28th minute before completing his hat-trick in the 53rd minute.
The first hat-trick of the second round was scored by URA forward Viane Ssekajuko who bagged four past his former side Wakiso Giants in a 5-0 Victory at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on 15th February 2022. Kabon Living was also on target.
Sekajugo beat the Goalkeeper twice in the first half in the 2nd and 39th minute before completing his treble at the hour mark and adding the fourth in 71st minute.
The latest player to walk away with the match day ball is Arua Hill Winger Rashid Kawawa in a 4-2 win over Wakiso Giants at the Barifa Stadium on 2nd March. Alfred Leku was also target scoring the second goal of the day after the hat-trick hero had given the Kongolo the lead.
The number 11 gave the hosts an early lead in the 4th minute before doubling his tally in the 14th minute and completing his three-goal haul in the 38th minute.
