Express Deny KCCA Comeback Win In Four-goal Thriller

Thursday, March 3
•Express 2-2 KCCA FC
•SC Villa 0-1 Busoga United
•Mbarara City 0-0 URA FC

KCCA FC dropped points at Express FC in an entertaining league thriller at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

Substitute Joseph Akandanwaho scored with 13 minutes to spare to hand Express a hard fought draw after KCCA FC had staged a comeback.

Initially, Martin Kizza put Express in the lead but goals from Julius Poloto and Sadat Anaku had sent the Visitors on course for maximum points.

The result dents KCCA FC’s title hopes as Morley Byekwaso’s charges are now three points adrift of leaders Vipers.

Express, playing under interim coach James Odoch for the first time at home, remain sixth with 30 points.

Martin Kizza curled in the opener far beyond Derrick Ochan’s reach to hand the Red Eagles a perfect start.

Express Captain Enock Walusimbi was judged to have fouled Usama Arafat for the referee to point to the spot, and Poloto sent Denis Otim the wrong way to level matters.

KCCA FC dominated the opening exchanges at restart and their display was soon rewarded with Anaku volley.

But Akandwanaho poked past a stranded Ochan after he chased on a long ball from Walusimbi.

Express had a couple of chances to grab a winner late on, but they will settle for a point after unconvincing display at home.

The Red Eagles will feel hard done by the soft foul leading to the KCCA FC penalty, and Walusimbi revealed his discontent at halftime while a home fan attacked the referee at fulltime.

For the Visitors, Morley Byekwaso was hugely criticised by the fans who have continued to question his credentials to lead the 13-time winners forward.

What Next – Express visit Gaddafi on March 8 while KCCA host SC Villa at Lugogo on March 12.
