Karisa, Sentamu on Target as Vipers reach Last 16

Defending Champions Vipers SC reached this year’s round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup following their 3-1 over Kalongo United on Saturday.

Goals from Milton Karisa, Najib Yiga and forward Yunus Sentamu ensured that Venoms picked a deserved victory away from home.

Bosco Okot scored the only goal for Kalongo as they bowed out of this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup competition.

The Venoms dominated from the first whistle and it paid off when Karisa put them ahead in the 10th minute of the game.

Playing away from home, Vipers kept on lanching various attacks to add on their tally with the hosts at the receiving end.

But they to wait till the 39th minute to add on their tally through Yiga, who benefited from goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora’s pass to send a powerful left shot into the back of the net.

At the restart of the second half, the hosts pulled one back through Okot and it looked like they could get back into the game.

But Vipers remained composed and once again regained their dorminance, lanched numerous attacks to score more.

With eight minutes past the hour mark, Sentamu made it three after benefiting from Milton Karisa’s donkey work.

In the closing stages, Vipers who were already three goals ahead maintained their lead to ensure that they advance to the next stage.

Victory ensured that the Venoms stormed the last 16 as they keep eyes on defending the title they won last year.

They now join other Uganda Premier League sides that include Mbarara City, Wakiso Giants, Bul FC, Bright Stars, Onduparaka, UPDF among others that have already sealed a place to the next round.

Tipsa, Kataka FC, Iganga Young, Mbale Heroes are the other teams that have already sealed a place to the last 16.
