Police FC will welcome fellow top-flight side Gaddafi FC in a round of 32 Stanbic Uganda Cup contest on Friday at the Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
The hosts Police FC, who finished at the semi final stage last year will have all eyes on progressing to the next stage as they keep eyes on the big prize this season.
While speaking ahead of the game, head coach Abdallah Mubiru expressed his side’s readiness and is optimistic that they will get the job done.
“We have had some good time for preparations and we are ready for the knock out game against Gaddafi. Apart from the few injuries the rest of the members are ready to perform to their best. There is nothing much I can ask from these players apart from giving me their best,” he told the club’s media on Thursday.
This meeting will be the second this season, with the first one coming in the league in early December last year. At the same venue, the Cops came from two goals down to deny Gaddafi maximum points at home thanks to Juma Balinya and Herman Wasswa second half strikes.
Amos Kirya and Hassan Musana (penalty) had scored first for the visitors on that day before the break.
To reach this stage, Police FC edged Bushenyi Veterans 1-0 last month at the round of 64 stage, thanks to Fahad Kizito’s early strike in the 9th minute of the game.
For Gaddafi FC, they needed shootouts to eliminate Heroes FC by 5-2 to see them reach this far.
The previous edition of the Uganda Cup, Police lost to eventual Champions Vipers SC 2-0 at the semis in a game held at Fufa technical centre in Njeru.
This being a knock out, there will be no room for error by both sides as they keep eyes on sealing a place to the next stage.
