Onduparaka head coach George Lutalo revealed what could have played a difference in his side’s win against Tooro in Stanbic Uganda Cup.
Onduparaka cruised past Tooro United to reach the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16, thanks to a 2-1 win in their round of 32 crush played at Greenlight stadium on Wednesday.
Gabriel Matata’s first half strike and Mohammed Shaban’s late winner handed the hosts revenge against Visiting Tooro United who had equalized through Martin Arinaitwe’s 38th minute free kick.
Earlier this month, Tooro beat Onduparaka 1-0 courtesy of Ronald Ssenoga Penalty in their sound round league opener at Buhinga Stadium.
“We came into this game knowing how exactly they are playing, a thing which we didn’t know when we met the other time in the league, so we laid our strategy very well this time round, our strategy and target is to keep advancing while playing good,” Lutalo said during post match interview.
“But it has been a hard game though we managed to win it, thank very much to my players for the energy generated to see that we win the game.”
Captain Shaban said that they will now switch focus to pulling the team to league safety.
“The game was not easy, Tooro came all out for a win, they leveled in the first half and when they came back in second half they started kicking the ball any how in order to force a draw so that they try their level best in penalties, but we also didn’t give up till when we got the winner,” stated Shaban.
“Beside the Uganda Cup, its not over yet in the league, we have to fight so hard to see that we get the team out of red zone because that’s not where we belong, we have to finish in a better position in the league.”
Onduparaka are currently 12th on the log, with 17 points out of 18 games, just one point above 14 and 15th placed Mbarara City and Bright Star respectively.
The Caterpillars will wait for the draw to see who they will face in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16.
