Striker Samuel Ssenyonjo scored a hat trick as Wakiso Giants rolled past Big League side Kyetume in a Stanbic Uganda Cup match at Kabaka Kyabagu stadium in Wakiso.
It was a brilliant display for the striker who joined the Purple Sharks from KCCA FC, and he showed his quality with two quick fire goals in the opening four minutes of the game.
Ezra Bida scored a brace for Kyetume while Hassan Ssenyonjo and Tom Masiko were on target for Wakiso Giants who progress to the round of 16.
Ibrahim ‘Owen’ Kasule contributed a couple of assists in the winning effort while Moses Aliro who missed close range finish was a shadow of himself ok the day.
But it was a one sided affair as Wakiso Giants dominated proceedings against a Kyetume side that went about three days without training prior to the game.
The Hosts capitalized on their home advantage and took an early lead when Sam Ssenyonjo tapped in a ball from Owen Kasule to give the hosts a lead in the second minute of the game.
Ssenyonjo quickly added the second but another swift response saw Kyetume pull a goal back through midfielder Bida.
And goalkeeper Maliyamungi made a couple of good saves to keep the score at bay.
Ezra Bida was gifted with a glorious opportunity to draw the scores level but his effort went wide before the break.
Wakiso’s second half surge was rewarded with a third goal, captain Hassan Ssenyonjo restored their two-goal lead before striker Sam Ssenyonjo completed his hat trick shortly after.
Ssematimba had a couple of chances to register his name on the scoresheet but he was denied by Maliyamungu.
Kyetume got another consolation when Ezra Kaye was brought down in the box by Edward Satulo for Bida to score a second.
But the celebrations were cut short after substitute Masiko finished off a neat move with just seven minutes to spare.
Wakiso Giants become the second Uganda Premier League team, after UPDF FC who beat Impala on Monday, to progress to the round of 16.
