Gaddafi 1-0 Mbarara City – Gaddafi Arena Jinja
Waiswa Andrew scored a late penalty to hand Gaddafi FC a hard fought win over Mbarara City in the Startimes Uganda Premier league encounter in Jinja.
Mbarara City who had their captain Solomon Okwalinga sent off in the 60th minute of the game, were on course for a point until they conceded a late penalty in added time.
A late penalty was awarded to Gaddafi FC in the 95th minute of the game after a foul committed on Seif Batte in the penalty area.
Gaddafi FC were good value for the win but missed several chances in a game they could have won inside the first half.
In the 6th minute of the game, Gaddafi FC thought that they had received a penalty as Brian Kalumba was fouled in the 18-yard box but the referee waved play on.
Martin Elungat made a brilliant save in the 10th minute to deny James Otim in a one-on-one situation.
Jude Ssemugabi had a chance to put Mbarara City ahead but his shot was cleared off the line by Onen Franco after beating goalkeeper Ronald Mutebi.
Brian Kalumba and James Otim failed to capitalize on the chances they received and their efforts went straight to Mbarara goalkeeper Elungat.
Seif Batte put the ball in the back of the net but his effort which would have put Gaddafi in the lead was cancelled out as he scored in an offside position as we came to end of the first half.
In the 60th minute of the game Solomon Okwalinga was shown matching orders after committing a foul on Ssebutinde.
Mbarara City sat back thereafter before they were hard done by a late penalty in the 95th minute of the game as Seif Batte was fouled in the forbidden area.
Gaddafi FC captain Waiswa Andrew scored from the spot to secure all the three points for the home side as they moved out of the relegation battle.
Gaddafi who also won the first round tie 1-0 in Kakyeka, moves to the eighth position with 24 points whereas Mbarara remains in the relegation zone sitting in the 14th position with just 16 points.
