Express FC’s first game without sacked head coach Wasswa Bbosa ended in a 1-0 loss away to Busoga United.
Paul Ssekulima scored the only goal to guide Busoga United past James Odoch’s Red Eagles in a league game at Kakindu stadium in Jinja.
Ssekulima scored from a thunder bolt shot from outside the box in the 21st minute to gift the struggling hosts all the three points as the side moved out of the relegation zone.
The goal was a big highlight and reward for Busoga United’s dominance in the opening exchanges.
Busoga United had a chance to double their lead with just seconds after scoring the first but Ssekulima shot was blocked by Issa Lumu after being set up by Anwar Ntege.
In the 30th minute of the game, goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa was called into action to push away a shot from Anthony Mayanja for a corner.
Express FC who had limited chances in the first stanza failed to utilize them withMartin Kiiza shooting wide after being set up by Daniel Shabena in the 43rd minutes of the game.
In the second half, Express FC tried to push for an equaliser but lacked presence in front of goal.
Joseph Akandwanaho and Geoffrey Lwesibawa who came in second half missed several opportunities as goalkeeper Ssekandi Andrew stood to the task.
Busoga United held onto their nerves to protect their 1-0 lead as they won the game to move out of the relegation zone.
The survival battle has now become more tougher as Busoga United now sit in the 13th place with 17 points same as Onduparaka in the 12th position.
Express FC remain in the 5th position with 29 points despite losing away against Busoga United, the first loss for the club in 16 games!
What Next
Both clubs will now turn focus onto the Uganda cup round of 16 which kicks off on Monday 21st.
Busoga united will be at home as they take on BUL FC in the Jinja derby.
Express will have to wait for winner between Super eagles and SC Villa.
