Ssenkatuka Hoping For More After Brace Against SC Villa

Bright Stars captain Nelson Ssenkatuka is hoping to score more goals so that he can help his side beat the drop.

The striker scored a brace as Bright Stars beat SC Villa on Friday at Njeru, the third win for the relegation candidates this season.

Ssenkatuka took his tally to six goals, having scored one each earlier against Mbarara City, KCCA FC, Tooro United and UPDF FC.

“It feels good to score again, it’s been a while since I last scored. It’s good to lead the team from the front and I thank my teammates for keeping with me and helping me score again,” said Ssenkatuka.

“It means a lot to score goals, I am happy to score and help the team, and I hope I can continue scoring in next game so that I can help my team.”

It was a brilliant display for Ssenkatuka, in Njeru against Villa, for a striker who returned home this season having left in 2019 to join Morocco’s Moghreb Tetouan.

Ssenkatuka scored the first in the 12th minute from the spot when he was brought down by goalkeeper Martin Ssenkooto before he doubled the lead when he was picked by Emmanuel Loki at the stroke of halftime.

But Bright Stars had a nervous finish when Goffin Oyirwoth halved the deficit with 20 minutes to time.

“It was not an easy game, it was very tough because we have to fight hard especially when they pulled a goal back but we showed resilience and we kept Communicating and we managed to win the game,” Ssenkatuka added.

“Our target is focusing on game by game, our next one is against Police FC and we will try to get three points as we seek to move up the table.”

Double is a Big Achievement – Paul Kiwanuka

The win meant that Bright Stars had completed a league double over Villa – They had won the first round tie 1-0 at Kavumba.

“It is a big achievement to the club and the players for picking up the first ever double against Villa in the league,” Bright Stars coach Paul Kiwanuka stated.

“It wasn’t an easy game winning away against SC Villa and being the first win for Bright stars away at Villa. It has been a good performance from the boys as we picked up maximum points.”

Kiwanuka targets improving on Bright Stars scoring rate and was tasked about debutant Yasin Mugume who played in front of goal alongside captain Senkatuka.

“Mugume has given us a good show though he is not yet where we want him to and fitness he is not yet there but he played according to instructions as we are improving day by day on converting the chances we create.”

“We scored two though we missed a lot of chances but we shall work on converting those chances in the next games to come.”

Bright Stars are in the relegation zone, in 15th with 15 points from 17 games played so far.

They will now turn all their focus to their next game as they host Police FC at home.
