Egypt needed shootouts to beat hosts Cameroon and reach the final of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Normal time ended goalless and nothing could separate the two African giants in extra time in a closely contested semifinal at the Paul Biya Stadium in Olembe.

The result sent Egypt to the final where they will meet Senegal in what has been dubbed as the ‘Mane-Salah Affair’

The Pharaohs will have their goalkeeper Mohammed Gabaski to thank after he saved two penalties to hand Egypt a chance in their chase for a record extending 8th AFCON title.

Vicent Abubakar scored the first penalty for Cameroon but Gabaski saved from Harold Moukoudi and James Lea Siliki, while Clinton N’Jie sent his effort wide.

Ahmed Zizo Sayed, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Mohanad Mostafa Lasheen all beat Cameroon’s Andre Onana from the spot.

It was sweet revenge for Egypt who lost to Cameroon in the 2017 AFCON final in Libreville, Gabon.

Cameroon will rue missed chances in the 90 minutes including twice hitting the post by Michael Ngadeu and Samuel Gouet.

But it was Onana who kept them in the game after the Ajax goalkeeper came out to deny Mohammed Salah in a one-on-one situation.
