Uganda Athletics Federation: Re-elected Otuchet Vows To Build Home in 4th Term

Dominic Otuchet says that he is going to strive and see that Uganda Athletics Federation acquire it’s own home after he was re-elected for Presidency.

Otuchet was handed the instruments of power unopposed as he enters his fourth straight term at the helm of Uganda Athletics Federation.

The elections that confirmed other members on Executive including Beatrice Ayikoru were held over the weekend at Kati Kati.

“I want to thank the delegates of UAF for giving me a mandate of four more years,” started Otuchet who replaced Dan Tamwesigire as President way back in 2010.

“It was unanimous, I dont take that for granted, I know in my UAF family there are many competent people but they have still left the leadership with me. I will make sure that I work harder and uplift every part of this country in our Sport.

“I also thank God, I am God fearing. When the righteous are in leadership, people rejoice – That’s what the bible say.”

Uganda Athletics Federation is one of the most successful in terms of medals after their recent exploits at the Tokyo Olympics where Uganda finished with four medals include gold from Joshua Cheptegei and Peruth Chemutai.

“We have set the bar very high, and we want to make it better in these next four years.

“Up to now we are renting offices at Metropole House, it’s a decent place yes but it’s not ours, we want to ensure that by the end of these four years we shall have our offices.

“We have already laid ground work, we have gone out to look for places where we can do this, so we are going to work hard to ensure that this is achieved because we are a big Federation. We are a model Federation in this country.”

Also top on his agenda is spreading and developing the Sport of Athletics across all parts of the country.

Otuchet explained: “We want to develop sport in every part of the country, I know that we have several training camps in the hills of Sebei, Bukwo, Kwen and Kapchorwa which is good but they cover long and middle distances. We want to deliberately support the camps in lower areas like in Soroti, Tororo areas, Gulu, Zombo, there is already something in Kabale which we want to support.”
