Uganda’s National senior Women football team, the Crested Cranes, have qualified to the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations.
This follows the withdrawal of Kenya Starlets, Uganda’s opponents at the second round.
FUFA has confirmed that they have received confirmation from CAF informing them about the automatic qualification after Kenya’s withdrawal.
The development is music to ears of many Ugandans as the nation return to AWCON for the first time since their maiden appearance in 2000.
Uganda was set to face Kenya next month with the winner over two legs booking a place to the final tournament.
The tournament will be hosted by Morocco from 2 to 23 July 2022.
The news find the Crested Cranes at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru having entered the camp this week in preparation for the Harambee Starlets.
Uganda earlier knocked out Ethiopia in the first round of the 2022 Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, with the game ending in shootout.
