Pilsner On Board As UPL Season Awards Return

The Uganda Premier League secretariat has confirmed that they will hold the end of season Awards starting 2021/22.

Pilsner Lager will be the headline sponsor for the awards that were last held in 2016/17 when then KCCA FC striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma was crowned the best player of the season.

The awards will seek to recognise excellency for the concluded season and will be held not more than a month after the end of the season.

“We told you that we will be back,” started Uganda Premier League CEO Bernard Bainamani started. “And here we are. Thanks to Pilsner Lager for enabling this to be a success. We hope to be back here to unveil more sponsors.”

Thirteen categories including Best Player of the Season have been lined up to be given out.

Bainamani revealed that the awards recipients will determined using Statistics, a Technical Panel and selected journalists while The Players Player of the Season and Coaches Player of the Season will be determined by the players and head coaches.

The Platinum award will be determined by the Uganda Premier League board – This will go to an individual that has been exemplary in contributing to the growth and development of the local league either as a player or coach or administrator.

Each of the recipients will receive a special designed gong and a small token of appreciation.

The move is an extension of the UPL Player and Coach of the month which are are also sponsored by Pilsner Lager.

“As you know we recently unveiled a 1 billion shillings investment in local football and these End of Season Awards are part of this investment,” said Pilsner Lager Brand Manager Kihumuro Edgar.

“Since we are awarding the best players of each game and of each month, it only makes sense that we also recognise the overall best players who have stood tall the entire season.”

Growing and expanding our relationships with our corporate partners is one of the pillars of developing our game and we look forward to these awards.”

StarTimes Uganda head of corporate affairs Christine Kikomeko stated: “We are privileged to see more partners on board. When we came in Ugandan football in 2015, not many sponsors were around then. We started out at KCCA and then SC Villa. But the gap was still there and we took the whole League, and since then, the league has got more mileage and we pleased to see that Pilsner is on board because this will add value to the league in terms of competition and welfare for teams and players.”
