Mbarara City: Okwalinga Replaces Mukundane as Captain

Mbarara City FC has named Solomon Okwalinga as the new team Captain replacing long serving Hillary Mukundane who officially left the club in search for Greener pastures.

The Captaincy comes to Okwalinga who last year extended his contract.

The club has kept Swalik Bebe Ssemuju and Pistis Barenge as first and second Assistants while goal keeper Martin Elungat replaces Steven Othieno as 3rd assistant captain.

Unlike Mukundane who had served the club since its regional and Big league times, Okwalinga joined the Ankole Lions only after gaining their promotion to topflight in 2017/18 season.

He signed from Synergy FC which Mbarara had beaten 2-1 in the finals of Big League promotion playoffs.

The midfielder was later sold to KCCA in early 2018, where he didn’t stay for so long when he joined Onduparaka in that off season before re-signing for Ankole Lions again in June 2019.

“What I can only say is you read Romans 13:1 – Leadership comes from God. And I think coach trusts me and sees something in that no one sees that’s why I was given the arm-band,” Okwalinga said.

“We are all leaders in our team, We shall all work hand in hand with everyone to see that we have a better second round. The task is not only for me alone but for the whole team.”

The Ankole lions will kick off the second round in 12th position with 15 points, just four points above the red zone.
