Robert Eseru: Arua Hill Lanky Striker Reveals Best of his Career

Arua Hill forward Robert Eseru has revealed the best moments of his footballing career in a wide ranging interview with The-SportsNation.

Eseru has gone down to the record books of Arua Hill as the player who scored the Kongolo’s first ever league goal in the top flight after his 61st minute opener gave debutants Arua the lead against defending champions Express in a 2-0 win at Wankulukuku.

Born on 19th June 2003 at Soroti Main Hospital to Mrs Atai Jesca and Eseru Robert, the forward went to Soroti Parents Primary school and Soroti SS for his Secondary school before enrolling at Ndejje University in Agricultural Engineering.

Eseru’s football journey started at Future Stars FC in Soroti before joining Soroti Young Stars and Light SS FC. He then joined Ndejje University FC on a scholarship, and later signed for UPDF from where he joined Arua Hill.

Here is the interview with Eseru.

SportsNation: What are your best moments in football?
Eseru: My best moment was scoring my first Uganda Premier League goal for Ndejje University against URA in 2018.

SportsNation: May you please name your best matches?
Eseru: Express Vs Arua Hill my first match for Arua Hill, we defeated the defending champions 2-0 and we were still new in the league and I scored on my debut for the Kongolo.

UPDF vs Express, it was a game full of pressure for us (UPDF) after losing four games in a row, we won Express 1-0.

Ndejje University vs Express, it was my first ever game live on TV in my career and my parents were home watching.

SportsNation: Who are your Best teammates?
Eseru: At Young Stars my best teammates were Eroitai Emmanuel (Zex) and Awojat David Juma because we started our career together unfortunately David Juma has left football which pains me alot.

Ejoku Moses, Otim John Paul, Tugume Steven, Olupot Joseph (Kalou) were my best at Future Stars we could stay together home they were like my brothers.

At Light SS I had Epaku Ivan, Oloro Nathan, Edwok Ronald, Kalungi Godfrey and Olele, when I joined Ndejje University I met Akol Erick, Jeans Braddy Wokorach, Salinto Skills, I swear I had many friends there.

Kato Ivan, Kajuba Jesse, Dickens Okwir, Najib Tusabe, Vuni Bright, Okot Fred, Kabuye Ruben Paul were my best teammates at UPDF.

SportsNation: Which are the best goals you have so far scored in your career?
Eseru: Two Goals vs SC Villa, the game was live on TV and the win took us (UPDF) to 9th on the log and it happened to be the last match of the season due to COVID-19 so we finished the season fairly.

My Goal against Vipers for Ndejje University, we needed points to survive relegation and I remember it was in the 22nd minute when I scored a volley past Viper’s Goalkeeper Fabian Mutombora.

My first goal for Arua Hill against Express, it was the Kongolo’s first game in the Uganda Premier League and it helped us start the season well.

SportsNation: Who is the best coach you have played under?
Eseru: Livingstone Mbabazi, he is a legend full of modern football ideas he has added alot in me.

SportsNation: What are your best memories in football so far?
Eseru: Scoring against Big teams in the Uganda Premier League, this really build my confidence. Guiding both Ndejje University and UPDF to the Uganda Premier League promotions.

SportsNation: What are your best achievements in your career?
Eseru: My maiden call to the National team last year and also graduating in Agricultural Engineering at Ndejje University because of football.

SportsNation: Mention your best players from other teams you would wish to play with?
Eseru: Edwok Ronald who players for Mbarara City, Moses Aliro of Wakiso Giants, KCCA’s Innocent Wafula, Nathan Oloro now at Onduparaka and Vipers duo Milton Karisa and Ibrahim Orit.
