ForteBet Real Stars Sports Awards: Joshua Cheptegei Crowned Best Of 2021

Long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei was on Tuesday named the Best Sportsman in Uganda for the year 2021 at the ForteBet Real Stars Sports Awards.

The Awards that recognises Sports excellence are sponsored by Betting company ForteBet and Jude Colour Solutions.

Reverand Canon Duncans Mugumya, the Commissioner Physical Education, Min. Of Education and Sports, was the Chief Gueest.

Cheptegei deservedly takes the crown, Real Super Star, after a successful year in which he won two medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The World Champion won Silver in the 10,000m before scooping gold later on in the 5000m race where he crossed the line victorious in 12:58.15, beating Canada’s Mohamed Ahmed (12:58.61) and Paul Chelimo (12:59.05) in Tokyo.

He also recorded the world-leading time of 8:09.55 for two miles among his other achievements in the year 2021.

Rally ace Yassin Nasser came second behind Cheptegei thanks to his exploits at the African Rally Championship (ARC).

Nasser this year became the first Ugandan in about 24 years to win an African rally round with his ARC 2 win in South Africa.

Veteran commentator Kenneth Micheal Alerenge was recognised with the lifetime achievement award for his career that spanned over 30 years.

He worked worked for Radio Uganda, CBS Radio, Kampala African Radio etc.

For the Best of December, Hadijah Nandago (Football), Sarah Chelangat (Athletics), George Aporu (Volleyball) and Simon Ssesaazi (Batsman) were the monthly winners at the colourful event held at the Spicy Junction in Kamwokya.
