*Our Saviour 68-67 Tropical Royals
Our Saviour beat Tropical Royals 68-67 in a thrilling Game three at Nakasero to win the series 2-1 and this year’s Division One Basketball League title.
Both sides were earlier promoted to the National Basketball League (NBL) after winning their respective semifinals, with Our Saviour edging RezLife Saints while Tropical Royals ousted Kampala Rockets.
In the final series, Our Saviour won Game One 65-60 to draw first blood on December 12 but the Royals were level on Saturday thanks to a 73-67 win in Game two to force a decider.
In a pulsating game three whose kickoff was delayed due to rain on Sunday at Nakasero, Our Saviour won it with one basket.
With the game tied 66-66 in the last seconds of the fourth quarter, Our Saviour’s Andrew Sendaula sent Tropical Royals’ Allan Nandala to the line and he scored one of his two free throws to hand the Royals a slender 67-66 lead.
But that was short lived after Elton Donald Bakara laid up at the opposite end with 20 seconds on the clock, and Nandala missed a 3-pt winning jumper thereafter before the final buzzer was welcomed with wild celebrations from Our Saviour team.
Moses Mugisha led the way with a double double of 26 points and 12 rebounds while Davis Asiimwe and Elton Dalton Bakama added 13 and 11 points respectively.
Allan Nandala and Edgar Osiapie scored 16 and 14 in that order in a losing effort.
Its celebration time for Our Saviour basketball team who finished 4th with a 11-3 record in regular season before dispatching Knight Riders in the Quarters on their way to NBL return after a year wait.
In Division Two; Livingstone beat Miracle Eagles in the final to win the title, and both teams were earlier promoted to Division One.
