Masaza Cup: Kyaggwe, Busiro Reach Quarter Finals

Kyaggwe and Busiro are the two teams from the Bulange Group to storm the Quarter finals at the ongoing Masaza Cup tournament.

Coming in into the last group games, three teams had a chance of going to the next stage but Kyaggwe and Busiro did just enough to win their respective matches.

The first game of the day at noon saw Kyaggwe take care of Bugerere with a 4-2 win thanks to a goal each from Gerrard Ogwetti (penalty), Jackson Ssemugabi, Kalanzi Dennis and Toko David.

Ezra Mugambe and Hudson Mbalire scored the only two goals for Bugerere as they bowed out of this year’s competition.

Victory ensured that Kyaggwe finished on top of the Bulange Group with 7 points level with second placed Busiro who registered a 3-1 win over Buvuma in the other game of the day.

A goal each from Kasenge Ibrahim, Ivan Aganile and Mutebi ensured that Simon Ddungu’s men picked maximum points on the day.

Henry Katamba scored the only goal for the Islanders as they lost their third game, to finish their group games without any single point.

Speaking after their last group game, Busiro head coach Simon Ddungu said:

“We have finished in the second in our group but it’s due to the cards we got in our first game but we take because that’s football. We are going to go back and prepare so that we can as well progress the semi finals and I call upon all our supporters to render any necessary support to help these young talents.

Meanwhile, in the latest new developments, Kyadondo returned to the quarter finals, after winning their case of fielding uneligible player in Kibumba Edrisa Kasirye. The decision that was passed by the Masaza Cup organizing committee affected the table Standings in the Masengere group, with now Kyadondo qualifying with 7 points, one above Ssingo who had initially Qualified.

Up next is the Butikiro group that has Bulemeezi, Ssese, Kooki and Mawokota with action expected to kick Start on Tuesday this week.
