Preview: Vipers Seek To Close Gap Atop

Vipers will be going for maximum points when they visit Busoga United on match-day 10 of the Uganda Premier League at Njeru.

The Venoms start the day in third place and nine points adrift of leaders KCCA FC who beat Police on Friday to move to 26 points.

They had a chance to halt KCCA FC’s unbeaten run last time out at Kitende but the match ended 2-2 and Vipers will feel they earned that point after needing a late Bobosi Byaruhanga strike to deny KCCA maximum points.

Now pressure is on the Venoms to deliver against a struggling Busoga United who are desperate to return to winning ways.

Coach Roberto Oliveira expressed concern ahead of the trip to Njeru saying that teams are now aware of their playing style.

Oliveira however stated that they want to play “nice football, play very well with the ball, overlapping, great combination and reduce space between defence and midfield and attack” which will help them get a good result.

Busoga United find themselves a place above the relegation zone and are on a three-game losing streak.

Now is not the right time for Busoga United to face a title contender but any positive result they can pick against Vipers will be a good motivation ahead of future games that include wounded Police, SC Villa and Expess in that order.

Busoga United’s only win against Vipers came in April 2017 when Anthony Mayanja scored the only goal at Kakindu.

Last season, Vipers beat Busoga United home and away in the league, and the same in Uganda Cup!
